Dermaplaning in Chicago runs $105 to $150 for one session at the med spas we checked. At Elite Med Spa, just west of the city in Berwyn, it starts at $75. Same sterile blade. Same smooth, bright skin. Free parking, and no downtown traffic.

This guide covers what dermaplaning does, what it costs across Chicago in 2026, what is new this year, and how to get the most out of every visit.

Quick Answer

Dermaplaning is a facial where a trained provider uses a sterile blade to gently remove dead skin and peach fuzz. Your skin looks brighter right away, makeup goes on smoother, and there is no downtime. Results last about 3 to 4 weeks. At Elite Med Spa, dermaplaning starts at $75 for an express session and $125 for a full dermaplaning facial. New clients save 20% on their first visit.

What Is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation. Your provider holds a sterile, single-use blade at a low angle and makes short, light strokes across your skin. Each stroke lifts off two things at once:

  • The top layer of dead skin cells that makes skin look dull
  • Vellus hair, the soft peach fuzz that traps oil and makeup

There are no acids, no heat, and nothing left on your skin to keep working after you leave. That is why there is no peeling and no recovery time. Most people say it feels like a soft brushing. It does not hurt.

The blade is used on the forehead, cheeks, chin, jawline, and upper lip. It is not used on the eyelids or over active breakouts.

Will the hair grow back thicker?

No. This is the most common question we get. Dermaplaning cuts the hair at the surface. It does not touch the root, so it cannot change how thick or dark the hair grows. We explain the science in Does Hair Grow Back Thicker After Dermaplaning?

Benefits of Dermaplaning

The change is easy to see the moment you sit up. Here is what dermaplaning does well:

  • Brighter skin. Dead cells scatter light. Removing them makes skin look fresh and even.
  • Smoother makeup. Foundation stops catching on peach fuzz and dry patches. It lies flat.
  • Better skincare results. Serums and moisturizers reach fresh skin instead of a layer of debris.
  • Softer texture. Rough, flaky spots feel smooth right away.
  • No downtime. You can go back to work, or to dinner, the same day.

What it does not do: dermaplaning works on the surface only. It will not fade deep dark spots, treat active acne, or fill in deep lines. For those, we may suggest a chemical peel, Lumecca IPL, or Morpheus8 instead.

Who Is Dermaplaning For?

Dermaplaning suits most adult skin types. It is a good fit if you have:

  • Dull, tired-looking skin
  • Visible peach fuzz on your cheeks, jaw, or upper lip
  • Makeup that looks cakey or patchy
  • Dry, flaky skin, which is common in Chicago winters
  • Sensitive skin that does not like strong acids
  • A wedding, photo shoot, or big event coming up

Who Should Wait or Skip It

Please tell us before your visit if any of these apply. We may move your appointment or suggest something else:

  • An active acne breakout or a rosacea flare
  • A cold sore, sunburn, cut, or rash on your face
  • You took isotretinoin (Accutane) in the last 6 months
  • You use retinol or prescription retinoids. You may need to pause them for a few days first.
  • You had a peel, laser, or waxing on your face in the last 2 weeks

Dermaplaning is also one of the few facials many providers consider during pregnancy, since it uses no acids. We still ask you to check with your doctor first.

What a Dermaplaning Visit Looks Like

A typical visit at Elite Med Spa goes like this:

  1. Quick skin check. Your provider looks at your skin and asks about your products and medications. This is where we catch anything that means we should wait.
  2. Cleanse. Your face must be fully clean and dry for the blade to glide safely.
  3. Dermaplaning. Short, gentle strokes, section by section. A fresh sterile blade is used for every client.
  4. Finish. A calming serum and sunscreen go on to protect your fresh skin.
  5. Aftercare. You leave with simple steps for the next 48 hours.

How Much Does Dermaplaning Cost in Chicago?

We checked the published prices of Chicago med spas in October 2026. A single dermaplaning session in the city ran $105 to $150. Downtown spas sat at the top of that range.

River North med spa$150$250
South Side Chicago med spaFrom $105Not listed
Elite Med Spa, BerwynFrom $75 (express), from $125 (full facial)From $150

Prices are starting prices taken from each spa’s public menu in October 2026. They can change, so always confirm when you book.

Dermaplaning is not new, but how people use it has changed. Here is what we are seeing this year.

1. Dermaplaning as the first step, not the whole facial

More people now book dermaplaning as a prep step before another facial. With the dead layer gone, the next treatment reaches fresh skin. At Elite Med Spa, dermaplaning pairs well with HydraFacial MD or the DiamondGlow facial, done in the same visit. Not sure which facial to add? Read DiamondGlow vs HydraFacial.

2. Sonic dermaplaning tools

Professional dermaplaning tools that vibrate at high speed to help the blade glide are a big topic in 2026. They get a lot of attention online. The basics have not changed, though. Results still depend on a clean face, the right blade angle, and a trained hand.

3. At-home kits everywhere

At-home dermaplaning blades are now sold in every drugstore. They can remove peach fuzz, but they are not the same as a professional session. A provider checks your skin first, spots reasons to wait, uses a sterile blade, and knows how to work around breakouts and sensitive areas. Nicks, irritation, and breakouts are more common when people do it themselves.

4. More women in their 40s and 50s

Peach fuzz often gets more noticeable during perimenopause and menopause. Many women in this stage now book dermaplaning to keep skin smooth and makeup looking clean, without harsh products.

5. The makeup-ready glow

The smooth, glassy-skin look is still everywhere on social media. Dermaplaning is one of the quickest ways to get a smooth base for makeup, which is why it is a favorite before weddings, photos, and holiday events.

6. Memberships over one-off visits

Results last 3 to 4 weeks, so regular visits keep skin smooth. More clients now book on a monthly rhythm. Ask us about membership pricing for repeat treatments.

Dermaplaning vs Other Facials

All of these improve your skin, but they do different jobs. Dermaplaning is the only one that removes peach fuzz.

Dermaplaning Aftercare and How Often to Go

Aftercare is simple. For the first 48 hours:

  • Wear broad-spectrum sunscreen every day
  • Use a gentle cleanser and a plain moisturizer
  • Skip retinol, acids, and scrubs
  • Avoid saunas, steam rooms, pools, and heavy sweating for the first day
  • Keep your hands off your face

The full hour-by-hour guide is in Dermaplaning Aftercare: What to Do and Avoid for 48 Hours.

Most clients come back every 3 to 4 weeks. That matches how fast your skin renews itself. Going more often does not help, because the top layer has not built back up yet.

A Chicago tip: winter wind and dry indoor heat leave skin rough and flaky, which is when dermaplaning makes the biggest visible difference. In summer, it still works well. Just be strict about sunscreen, because fresh skin burns more easily.
